Book - Can-Am Challenger: The Cockney F1 Mechanic Who Designed and Built America's Best Can-Am Cars (Author: Peter Bryant)
In 1964, fate took Bryant to America. It was here that he made an indelible mark in auto racing--as the designer of the most successful American-built race cars during the heyday of the Canadian-American Challenge Cup. His cars broke new ground in the use of advanced materials such as titanium, as well as emerging ground-effect technologies. It was an amazing achievement for a cockney lad with no formal training in design or engineering. But Peter overcame these limitations through a rare ability to learn by doing and an incredible capacity for hard work. He also retained an irrepressible sense of humor that reveals itself in a lifetimes worth of anecdotes gathered on and off the racetrack. Whether it was launching rockets at the Lotus shop, dodging French police at the Reims GP, or spending New Years Eve quarantined with Graham Hill in Pakistan, Peter never lost his boundless enthusiasm or energy.

Book - The Brothers Rodríguez Author: Carlos Eduardo Jalife-Villalon
Youth, glamour, and blinding speed made Pedro and Ricardo Rodríguez national heroes in their native Mexico and instant legends in the world of motorsports. Ricardo scored a podium finish at Le Mans in 1960, and then joined Ferrari as the youngest-ever Formula One driver. After Ricardo’s tragic death during practice for the first Mexican Grand Prix, Pedro quickly built a dazzling reputation of his own, scoring grand prix wins for Cooper and BRM, winning the 1968 Le Mans 24 Hours, and dominating sports-car racing driving the awesome Gulf-Porsche 917. Then, at the peak of his talent, Pedro too was killed in a sports car race in 1971.
Along with their speed and versatility, Pedro and Ricardo became known as two of the racing world’s most colorful and glamorous characters. In Mexico they were national heroes and personal friends of the president, while in France, Germany, and other countries they became adoptive favorite sons. They raced with such great drivers as Stirling Moss, Phil Hill, Jim Clark, and Jackie Stewart, and served such legendary taskmasters as Enzo Ferrari, Colin Chapman, Louis Stanley, and John Wyer.
Exhaustively detailed and lavishly illustrated, with approximately 4,000 color and black-and-white photographs—many of them from the family’s personal archives—The Brothers Rodríguez tells the complete story of Pedro and Ricardo’s careers at the track, as well as their lives away from it. Author Carlos Eduardo Jalife-Villalón also sets their lives against the broader backdrop of Mexico’s politics and history, explaining how motor racing and other sports helped the country to attract the world’s attention during the fast-changing decades of the 1950s and 1960s.

More about "Walt Hansgen: His Life and the History of American Post-War Road Racing":

As the lead driver on Briggs Cunningham’s dominant team, and later John Mecom’s team, Walt evaluated and developed race cars working closely with Jaguar, Lister, Maserati, and Ford. At different points in his career he paired with Dan Gurney, Stirling Moss, John Fitch, Archie Scott Brown, and Augie Pabst on circuits as far-flung as Watkins Glen, Le Mans, Silverstone, Sebring, and Road America. Walt was a relentless competitor, but his sense of fairness and camaraderie made him respected by his peers and a leader in the sport. For many up-and-coming racers, including Mark Donohue, Walt was a crucial mentor.

The 1950s and 1960s were a time of tremendous change in racing. In this exciting, fast-paced biography author Michael Argetsinger shows how Walt’s life encompassed the conflict between amateur and professional racing, the extraordinary advances in technology, and the joyful ambition of his era. The result is a vivid account of the remarkable history of post-war American road racing.
