History of the Auto Show
In 1900, North America’s first automotive exhibition was held in New York’s Madison Square Garden. Sixty-nine exhibitors displayed approximately 160 vehicles. The vehicles on display ranged in price from $280 to $4,000. An estimated 48,000 visitors attended this first “auto show.” For more than one hundred years – through depression, war, boom times, crisis, recession and growth, there has been a New York Automobile Show. The first truly international show was held in 1949 as post-war interest in European cars was rising drastically.
For the automotive enthusiast, a trip to the auto show is almost a rite of passage. The snow is melting, spring is in the air, and new cars are on the floor! These are exciting times for the automotive industry as new technology has changed almost every aspect of the driving experience.
For over 100 years New York has been the place to go to see the latest and best automobiles in the world.
